Police arraign 3 for allegedly stealing vehicle parts worth N680,000

The police on Friday, dragged three men before a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan, for allegedly  stealing a vehicle’s brain box valued at N120,000.

The defendants are: Anuoluwapo Akinpelu, 30; Sodiq Akindele, 33; and Mobarak Olagoke, 26.

The trio are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing brought against them by the police.

They, each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum .

The court held that the sureties must be relatives of the defendants, and must provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State government in addition to possessing valid means of  identification.

She, consequently, adjourned the case until Aug. 25, for trial.

In the charge, the prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 2, at Agbarigo area of Ibadan.

Ayeni alleged that the defendants were arrested after they had conspired to steal the brain box of a car valued at N120,000.

He alleged that they also stole a car radio, valued at N40,000,  an electrical fuse, valued at N35,000 and an air conditioner valued at N485,000.

He said that the total value of the stolen items amounted to N680000.

The items are said to be owned by one Mr Christian Onoke.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.(NAN).
